Your privacy at Lexcavate
Lexcavate is a free daily word game. You can play and share a result without creating an account, providing an email address, or enabling sync.
Progress saved in this browser
The game saves puzzle attempts, finds, streaks, statistics, and your in-progress path in this browser's local storage. Your sound preference is saved separately on this device. Clearing browser storage removes these local copies.
Optional encrypted sync
If you choose to make a sync link, this browser encrypts your puzzle progress before uploading it. Lexcavate's sync service stores the encrypted data, a one-way lookup identifier, and a one-way verification hash. It does not receive your encryption key, name, or email. The key is the part after #s= in your private link; browsers do not send URL fragments in web requests.
Anyone who has the sync link can access and change the progress attached to it, so keep it private. If you lose the link, there is no account or email address to recover it. The encrypted server copy expires after 180 days without a sync. You can stop syncing on one device or delete the server copy from the game's progress controls. Deleting the server copy leaves local progress in place; other devices using the old link disconnect the next time they sync.
Sync requests are rate-limited. The service temporarily hashes the connecting IP address into a rate-limit bucket and removes old buckets; it does not store the raw address in the progress record. Cloudflare processes requests to deliver the site and sync service under its own privacy policy.
Sharing
When you choose “Share your dig,” Lexcavate shares a spoiler-free result and a link to that puzzle. It does not include your answers, word histories, or private sync link.
Changes
